HUMANE-EFMD Winter School for Senior Managers
2019 Edition, Barcelona, 10-15 March, 2019
Now Open for Applications
We are pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2019 Winter School. Please use this link.
Throughout Europe, and despite apparent differences between national systems, senior managers in higher education have to deal with very similar issues. The increasing impact and importance of international strategy is a case in point.
Aims
The HUMANE-EFMD Winter School develops the leadership potential of talented Senior Managers by making them fully aware of the concepts and practices of strategic management in a European context, and the importance of integrating all areas of academic support, including finance, human resources, governance services, and marketing and communications.
Format
The programme is both participative and intensive, comprising plenary sessions and practical work in small groups. All participants are encouraged to discuss the experience of their own institutions. The working language is English, but presenters are very used to dealing with various levels of English language proficiency.
Content
The Winter School focuses on leadership and management skills in the context of the “big picture” of global higher education.
Participants will gain experience in making informed choices in decision-making in relation to strategic issues. The Winter School uses the experience of HUMANE and EFMD members to give unique first-hand insight into complex institutional changes. The geographical and cultural spread of our members ensure that this discussion is not system-specific.
Applicants
The Winter School is designed for talented fast-rising managers of administrative services, many of whom will be aspiring to become heads of administration. The typical candidate will be someone who has the potential to become an influential senior manager in higher education. Candidates may be either generalists or specialists, but will have an ambition to broaden their management responsibilities in the institution. All applicants need to be nominated by their institutional head of administration and a HUMANE/EFMD School Steering Committee makes a final decision on applications.
Application criteria
Applicants must provide the following:
- A one page statement describing their qualifications and why they are interested in attending the Winter School, explaining how it will benefit their institution and their personal development
- A one to two page curriculum vitae
- A letter of support from their head of administration
The website for applications is now open.
